What Happens After You Die?

You are going to die!
Accepting death is key to how you live your life.

“For we know that if the earthly tent we live in is destroyed, we have a building from God, an eternal house in heaven, not built by human hands. Meanwhile we groan, longing to be clothed instead with our heavenly dwelling, because when we are clothed, we will not be found naked. For while we are in this tent, we groan and are burdened, because we do not wish to be unclothed but to be clothed instead with our heavenly dwelling, so that what is mortal may be swallowed up by life. Now the one who has fashioned us for this very purpose is God, who has given us the Spirit as a deposit, guaranteeing what is to come. Therefore we are always confident and know that as long as we are at home in the body we are away from the Lord.”
‭‭2 Corinthians‬ ‭5‬:‭1‬-‭6‬ ‭NIV‬‬

“We are confident, I say, and would prefer to be away from the body and at home with the Lord. So we make it our goal to please him, whether we are at home in the body or away from it.”
‭‭2 Corinthians‬ ‭5‬:‭8‬-‭9‬ ‭NIV‬‬

What you believe about eternity determines how you live today.

3 Things Happens After This Life Is Over

1. Our physical bodies die.

“Just as people are destined to die once, and after that to face judgment, so Christ was sacrificed once to take away the sins of many; and he will appear a second time, not to bear sin, but to bring salvation to those who are waiting for him.”
‭‭Hebrews‬ ‭9‬:‭27‬-‭28‬ ‭NIV‬‬

2. Our souls separate from our bodies.

“Do not be afraid of those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. Rather, be afraid of the One who can destroy both soul and body in hell.”
‭‭Matthew‬ ‭10‬:‭28‬ ‭NIV‬‬

“Then he said, “Jesus, remember me when you come into your kingdom.” Jesus answered him, “Truly I tell you, today you will be with me in paradise.””
‭‭Luke‬ ‭23‬:‭42‬-‭43‬ ‭NIV‬‬

“I eagerly expect and hope that I will in no way be ashamed, but will have sufficient courage so that now as always Christ will be exalted in my body, whether by life or by death. For to me, to live is Christ and to die is gain. If I am to go on living in the body, this will mean fruitful labor for me. Yet what shall I choose? I do not know! I am torn between the two: I desire to depart and be with Christ, which is better by far; but it is more necessary for you that I remain in the body.”
‭‭Philippians‬ ‭1‬:‭20‬-‭24‬ ‭NIV‬‬

3. We will all face judgement.

“Since you call on a Father who judges each person’s work impartially, live out your time as foreigners here in reverent fear.”
‭‭1 Peter‬ ‭1‬:‭17‬ ‭NIV‬‬

The Two Question Test

“You, then, why do you judge your brother or sister? Or why do you treat them with contempt? For we will all stand before God’s judgment seat. It is written: “ ‘As surely as I live,’ says the Lord, ‘every knee will bow before me; every tongue will acknowledge God.’ ” So then, each of us will give an account of ourselves to God.”
‭‭Romans‬ ‭14‬:‭10‬-‭12‬ ‭NIV‬‬

1. What did you do with my son Jesus?

“Then I saw a great white throne and him who was seated on it. The earth and the heavens fled from his presence, and there was no place for them. And I saw the dead, great and small, standing before the throne, and books were opened. Another book was opened, which is the book of life. The dead were judged according to what they had done as recorded in the books. The sea gave up the dead that were in it, and death and Hades gave up the dead that were in them, and each person was judged according to what they had done. Then death and Hades were thrown into the lake of fire. The lake of fire is the second death. Anyone whose name was not found written in the book of life was thrown into the lake of fire.”
‭‭Revelation‬ ‭20‬:‭11‬-‭15‬ ‭NIV‬‬

“Many will say to me on that day, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name and in your name drive out demons and in your name perform many miracles?’ Then I will tell them plainly, ‘I never knew you. Away from me, you evildoers!’”
‭‭Matthew‬ ‭7‬:‭22‬-‭23‬ ‭NIV‬‬

Answer: I loved him personally.

2. What did you do with what I gave you?

“For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, so that each of us may receive what is due us for the things done while in the body, whether good or bad.”
‭‭2 Corinthians‬ ‭5‬:‭10‬ ‭NIV‬‬

“For the Son of Man is going to come in his Father’s glory with his angels, and then he will reward each person according to what they have done.”
‭‭Matthew‬ ‭16‬:‭27‬ ‭NIV‬‬

Answer: I gave my life away.

““His master replied, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant! You have been faithful with a few things; I will put you in charge of many things. Come and share your master’s happiness!’”
‭‭Matthew‬ ‭25‬:‭23‬ ‭NIV‬‬
